A small travel atelier · Sunnyvale, California

Journeys written by hand, one traveller at a time.

Since 2009 we have been quietly arranging the kind of trip you used to write postcards about — slow mornings in Kyoto, a private dhow off Lamu, a borrowed farmhouse south of Siena. No package tours. No hurry. Just the right door, opened at the right hour.

Our philosophy

We don't sell trips. We listen, then we plan.

Halcyon Skyways began the year Franklin Beach came home from a long, badly‑planned trip to Patagonia and decided travel deserved more care than it was getting. We have stayed small on purpose — five planners, a handful of researchers, and a network of guides we have known for a decade or longer.

Every itinerary we write starts with a long phone call and a longer questionnaire. We ask what you read, what you eat, what you'd rather skip. Then we draw something only for you. If you've been planning the trip in your head for years, we'd love to hear it; if you have no idea where to start, that's a good place to start, too.

How we work

Four quiet steps to a trip that fits.

01 · Listen

A long first call

Forty minutes, no script. We learn how you actually travel — early riser or late, museums or markets, two hotels or eight.

02 · Sketch

A first draft

Within a week we send a written outline: regions, rhythm, a handful of rooms we think you'd love. You react, we revise.

03 · Refine

The fine print

Guides matched to your interests, dinner reservations months out, the right driver for the long day, a private viewing where it matters.

04 · Travel

Eyes on the journey

While you're away, one of us is on duty in California — a real human, not a chatbot, reachable on the number on your itinerary.

And, afterwards

A short post‑trip debrief over coffee or a call. The next journey is almost always easier than the first.

What we don't do

Cruises, all‑inclusive resorts, twelve‑country bus tours, and anything that involves a megaphone. Politely, never.

A few favourite regions

Where we know the streets, the seasons, the people.

We don't pretend to know everywhere. Below are the corners of the world we visit ourselves, often.

"They booked us a farmhouse outside Lucca with a cook who'd known the owner since they were children. I cannot imagine finding it on our own. We've used them three times since."

There is no form to fill, no deposit to send. Tell us when you're thinking of travelling and roughly where your mind has been wandering. We'll write back, usually the same day.
